Reunion Feast

Heads Up!

I guess you already know by now, my Mum's a fantastic cook. No other time is this fact more celebrated then during this year's Reunion Dinner. No fancy restaurant dining for us, home cooked food is the only way to go.

Surf & Turf

Slow cooked stewed pork belly, half tender melting meat, half gelatinous fat: the perfect mouthful. And since she just got back from New Zealand, she brought with her the world's best mussels. Huge and oh so sweet with every bite.

A lil' bit of Thai, A lil' bit of Korean

Toufu Salad with a Thai / Korean Twist

Mum's gone all out with her creative juices this week, and the result is an Asian culinary feast. for the eyes and tummy. *slurp*

Salad Deconstructed

Take a traditional malay toufu salad, add some Korean noodles, dangmyeon, to the mix, and any veggie mix of your choice, the more colorful the merrier.

Salad Tossed and Devoured

Pour over some homemade sweet and spicy Thai dressing of lime, mint, sugar, soy sauce and the like, and finally, a snowy sprinkle of chopped peanuts, and viola! Yummy in the tummy!

Close Up Please

Toufu's light and a greater carrier of flavors, hence the sweet and spicy touch of the dressing was brought out beautifully. Paired with the crunch of the farm fresh veggies, juicy and delish!

My Childhood Fav, Promfet ala Mum's Style

This is my childhood fav and staple, pan fried promfet. Mum lightly pan fries the fish, sprinkles some spring onions on top, heats up a mixture of hot oil and soy sauce and pours the sizzling concoction onto the fish and springs. The smell that results is divine, 5 star Chinese restaurant amazing, and the flavors a merriment to the taste buds. She hits the high notes everytime, I tell ya. :D

Salmon Sashimi, by Master Chef Mum

Salmon Sashimi, Yusheng Style

If ever pressed to name my fav food, the answer would be 3 pronged:

Fav Food: Salmon Sashimi. I moan in shameless ecstasy every time a thick orange slab of the oh so meltingly buttery fish swims into my mouth. Oh gawd, pure joy.

Fav Cuisine: Indian. More specifically, North Indian Vegetarian. No fight. But that's another blog.

Food I'd gladly give up the world for: My Mum's cooking.

I must thank my lucky stars, for I can have 2 of my top 3 foods at one go. My mum makes the best salmon sashimi (not to mention the cheapest since I don't have to fork out a fortune to dine in exclusive Japanese restaurants). She also makes a mean yusheng, way way waaayy better than the ones you can find anywhere.

What peeved me here is not her heavenly bestowed culinary flair, of my lack thereof. While I can take forever to capture food at their most photogenic display of texture, color and shape, Mum the Great simply throws a bunch of key ingredients together: a sprinkle of this, a splash of that, a toss of some other, and Viola! Art on a plate! And 2 seconds to snap.

Without further ado, I present Mum's masterpiece for your viewing, and my eventual devouring pleasure.
